Free Air Time Campaign in High Gear

The Free Air Time Campaign is running full throttle in Illinois. U.S. Senator Dick Durbin has signed on to the free air time legislation as a co-sponsor, along with Senators McCain and Feingold. And ICPR recently hosted a highly-attended Free Air Time Forum in Carbondale, IL, where former U.S. Senator Paul Simon gave a keynote speech. To keep this campaign moving, ICPR needs your help! Here are three ways to get involved:

1. Sign the Free Air Time Declaration. This petition states that the signer: "believes in a fair and open democratic process that allows for a free exchange of ideas among a wide range of candidates, regardless of their wealth. To help our democracy attain this ideal, I support proposals to require that broadcasters, as a condition of receiving their free licenses to use our public airwaves, provide free air time for candidates immediately before all elections." You can sign this petition on-line! Go here: http://freeairtime.org/docs/index.php?DocID=12 to sign it now!

2. Be a Free Air Time Volunteer! ICPR is looking for volunteers to spread the word about this campaign. As a volunteer, you will be the voice of the Free Air Time Campaign in your community by hosting a discussion group and talking to your friends and neighbors about the campaign. To sign up, e-mail sandy@ilcampaign.org. We’ll send you a free copy of a 9 minute video, narrated by Walter Cronkite, as well as all the information you need to be a Free Air Time Volunteer.

3. Sponsor a Free Air Time Forum. If you are a member of an organization that might be interested in learning about The Free Air Time Campaign, let us know! We can come to a meeting of your organization to speak on this campaign and answer questions. E-mail sandy@ilcampaign.org if you'd like to learn more!
