Come Party with ICPR
Celebrate ICPR's 10th birthday on November 7, from 5:30-7:30pm, at the McCormick Tribune Freedom Museum in downtown Chicago. This year's fundraiser features the presentation of the 2007 Paul Simon Public Service Awards to Illinois Comptroller Dan Hynes and Illinois Issues Editor Peggy Boyer Long for their outstanding service to the people of Illinois. The event also offers a chance to experience an amazing new Chicago museum while supporting a noble cause.  For more information call Nelly at 312.335.1767 or visit: http://www.ilcampaign.org/Birthday/index.asp We hope to see you there!

Comptroller Hynes Unveils Pay-to-Play Website
More and more Illinoisans are speaking out in favor of HB 1, the ban on pay-to-play in state contracting. Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn redesigned his state website with animation and a soundtrack. Just this week, the Chicago Tribune and the Bloomington Pantagraph renewed their calls for the Senate to take action on HB 1. We’ve kept the drum beat going with a letter to all 177 legislators and the six statewide executive officers urging action. And Comptroller Dan Hynes yesterday unveiled a new website, Open Book, that makes it easier to connect the dots between campaign contributions and state contracts. We hope you can do your part, too. Play around with Open Book, and please visit our HB 1 page for more ideas.

FCC Chicago Hearing now on-line
Last month, the FCC held a rare public hearing in Chicago to discuss media ownership issues. ICPR's Cindi Canary was an invited panelist, and over 800 TV viewers took advantage of the public comment period to express their views. If you missed out and want to see what happened, Operation PUSH and CAN-TV have posted footage of the hearing on line, in 4 parts. Find it at Google Video: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4.
