ICPR's new Chicago database was so popular for the February elections that we've decided to update it for next week's runoffs. The database now has updated numbers for all candidates in runoff elections. Want to see who's giving? It's not all labor unions. And if you're more interested in state officials than Chicago pols, our state database is also updated through the end of 2006. Look and learn!
Telephone and Cable TV companies give $2.5 Million in 2005-2006
One of the hottest issues in Springfield these days is HB 1500, which will determine how Cable TV and Telephone companies can compete against each other to deliver visual programming to households. Combined, the Sunshine Database shows that the two industries gave $2.5 million to state officials in 2005-2006, led by ATandT for phone companies and Comcast for cable. What does that giving mean for TV viewers in Illinois? For more, see our Issue Briefing, Down to the Wire.
Survey of Government Workers Finds Dissatisfaction, Distrust of Ethics System
The Executive Ethics Commission, created by the 2003 Ethics Act, surveyed state employees and found over 87% identify one or more elements in their workplace that indicate an unhealthy ethical climate. Only 35.5% perceive no problem of retaliation against those who bring complaints, while over 45% believe that senior officials are held to different ethical standards than other employees. The survey is available through our website: go here for the report, here for the addendum, and here for the press release.
