A legal dispute between a political party and a state agency reveals how grossly incoherent our election law has become.
Laurel Lambert Schmidt of Riverside, who is running for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives from the state’s 3rd Congressional District, joined the Illinois Green Party in filing a lawsuit last month against the Illinois State Board of Elections. The board ruled that the Green Party does not qualify as an “established political party” for the 2012 elections.
