Today (Friday, July 6) Gov. Pat Quinn signed Senate Bill 3722, carving a large loophole into the campaign contribution limits law.

ICPR Says New Loophole is an Invitation to Corruption

CHICAGO – Brian Gladstein, Executive Director of the Illinois Campaign for Political Reform (ICPR) on July 6 released the following statement in reaction to Gov. Pat Quinn’s approval of Senate Bill 3722, which has created a wide loophole in the state’s campaign contribution limits system:

The Campaign Finance Reform Task force was created by Public Act 96-832, to conduct a thorough review of the implementation of campaign finance reform legislation in the State of Illinois, and the feasibility of implementing a mechanism of campaign finance regulation that would subsidize political campaigns in exchange for voluntary adherence to specified expenditure limitations.

Tell Gov. Quinn to defend Illinois’ Freedom of Information Act!

In their final workdays in May, lawmakers in Springfield approved a rollback to the state’s open records law, known as the Freedom of Information Act. This important state law is designed to guarantee residents have access to government records – after all, they’re funded by you, the taxpayer!

But the bill that lawmakers approved – House Bill 1716 – would roll back the public’s ability to access records in a timely fashion.
