State: Higher price for elections office still better deal

Larger office space for the State Board of Elections will cost about $98,000 more the first year under a pending lease.

However, state officials said that was the least expensive offer made to the state when it sought lease proposals earlier this year. And on a cost-per-square-foot basis, the new lease is less expensive than at the building being vacated, they said.

Renner: State Board of Elections’ hands tied

BLOOMINGTON – Illinois Wesleyan Political Science Professor Tari Renner says the State Board of Elections might be able to collect campaign fines if the state wasn’t so corrupt.

The Daily Herald in Chicago reports the board has levied more than $21.5 million in campaign finance violations since 1999 but only $1.2 million, or about six percent, have been paid.
